Spurs' spread Christmas cheer with gifts for Acorn Ward

Spurs' spread Christmas cheer with gifts for Acorn Ward

Tottenham Hotspur's players enjoyed the opportunity to bring festive fun to Whipps Cross Hospital this week.

Harry Kane, Paulo Gazzaniga and Kyle Walker-Peters were joined by Spurs ladies’ Maya Vio to hand out Christmas gifts and chat with children and families on the hospital's Acorn ward on Thursday, 21 December 2017.

Harry Kane said: “It’s close to my heart, definitely and great to come back and see the kids who are going through a tough time at Christmas. We’ve handed out presents and just giving them something to smile about…whenever we get the time to do something like this it’s a great feeling.

“It means a lot to the players to visit the hospitals, 100 per cent, anything we can do to give something back we enjoy it and it’s something we all want to do.”

The club visits each year to put a smile on the faces of children and staff.

Ulysses Ely, a 13 year old patient from Leyton, said: “When the players came on the ward I was so surprised. It was great to meet them and I was also really glad that my dad as well, as he’s a massive fan.”

Ghislaine Stephenson, Associate Director of Nursing for Children and Young People at Whipps Cross Hospital, said: “Being in hospital at any time, particularly the festive period, can be difficult for our younger patients and their relatives. So to have the players from Spurs come in and spread a little festive cheer has brightened their day, and given our hard working staff a real boost.”

Zosia Czapska, community fundraiser at Barts Charity, commented: “The players’ visit made the children and young people’s day – we’d like to say a big thank you to everyone involved at the club. These visits make such a difference to patients at this time of year.”
