Meet Tibor, assistant practitioner, WXH
I’m a band 3 assistant practitioner in critical care, Whipps Cross Hospital. I joined the ICU team in January 2020. I previously worked in a residential home for individuals with learning disabilities but decided that I wanted a new challenge. A friend of mine highlighted the job opportunity in critical care, and although it was new to me, I decided to apply.
Joining the team was one of the best decisions of my life. Critical care is very challenging, but it’s also been a great opportunity to learn new things and gain new skills. The critical care team at Whipps Cross are brilliant and I have learned a lot from them. I have acquired skills and knowledge which enable me to care for patients requiring respiratory support, recognise deteriorating patients, give basic life support, and support my colleagues in caring for patients requiring multiple organ support. While working in critical care you will get all the necessary training to keep you up to speed, as well as updates and refreshers.
The team is made up from a diverse range of people from all over the world, who work like one entity. The critical care team is always very supportive, nobody is left on their own and there’s always someone around to help. Critical care is full of opportunity for self-development with the chance to build a career and progress to higher bands. It’s a beautiful place to work where the team are my second family. We’ve both laughed and cried together in the most difficult time of our generation.
